Wonderbus is Ohio’s premier festival

Aug 28, 2023

WonderBus is a music festival that takes place annually in Columbus. The event features a diverse lineup of local and national artists and has quickly become one of the most popular festivals in the state. The best part? It’s right in your backyard!

The festival was first held in 2019 and was created by the organizers of a neighboring event in Cleveland, LaureLive (now WonderStruck), as a way to showcase the vibrant music scene in Columbus and bring together people from all over Ohio.

“I think there is room for what we are trying to do with these festivals, which is a little more localized, a bit more niche, where the community owns it … we are trying to find markets that are growing, that have active communities and a lot of energy, with a demographic that embraces the kind of festival that we’re creating,” festival organizer Cliff Chenfeld said in a Billboard article on the Wonderbus’ founding.

WonderBus takes place over the course of three days, typically in late August at The Lawn at CAS, 2540 Olentangy River Road.

The festival features multiple stages, each with its own lineup of artists. There are also a variety of food and drink vendors, and a number of activities for festival-goers to enjoy. Officially, the event is described as a “weekend music, arts, and culinary festival,” per the festival’s website

The event usually has three stages of music, and in the past, the festival has hosted some big names in the music industry, such as Duran Duran, Walk the Moon and Kesha.

The festival also includes an art fair, showcasing the work of local artists and artisans. The art fair is a great way to discover new talents and purchase unique souvenirs to remember your experience at WonderBus.

While the festival is primarily focused on music, it also offers a great opportunity to explore the city of Columbus. The CAS is located in the heart of the city, and is within walking distance of many popular attractions and restaurants.

Wonderbus helps raise money for mental health

One defining, and unique feature of the festival is its philanthropic element.

Last year, the event hosted the “I believe” campaign, spreading awareness on mental health. On the first day, a portion of the proceeds went towards The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

And Wonderbus has no plan on slowing up anytime soon. The festival inked a seven year deal in 2019 to stay at the CAS through 2026; the group donated $50,000 to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health as a testament to their commitment to mental health awareness and destigmitization.

“We’re thankful for the generosity of CAS, The Shipyard and The Elevation Group and their commitment to raise awareness about the importance of mental health. The money raised during WonderBus supports efforts to combat depression and strengthen suicide prevention programs for the most vulnerable in our communities,” Dr. K. Luan Phan, chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center said in a press release on the signing
