Subleasing Your Apartment for Rent in Athens Ohio This Summer?

Jul 10, 2016

  • slider

Most apartments for rent in Athens Ohio have year-round leases. Most Ohio University students won’t be in Athens during the summertime. That means the average OU student is shelling out about a grand for a house that will be pretty much empty all summer.

What’s the alternative? Subleasing. You may be able to lease your apartment out for a predetermined period of time. Before you start offering your room up for shots at the bar, however, you might want to do some homework first. As Forbes recommends, start by talking with your landlord to see if it is allowed. Some leases prohibit subleasing, though you may still want to discuss it with your landlord because you might be able to work out an agreement.

Get It in Writing

And remember this is a business transaction, even if you’re subleasing to friends. Take photos, ask for a deposit, and make sure to get everything in writing.

Finding Tenants

You can usually find someone to sublease through word of mouth, Craigslist, Facebook or Trulia’s rental section.
