Ohio University Student Rentals: Our Move-In Checklist

Jul 16, 2018

Our Move-In ChecklistSo you’re moving into your student rental in Athens Ohio next week. You’ve packed the flower vase (at least you tell your grandma it’s a flower vase. She’s so cute). You’ve talked to your roommates and figured out who’s bringing the coffee table, the mini fridge, and the foosball. You’ve got three weeks worth of underwear and your vinyl collection all crated up. Know what you’re missing? The Official Athens Ohio Apartment Move-in Checklist! We’ve got you covered.

The Kitchen

Now that you’re finally out of Ohio University housing, you get to say bye bye to dorm food. The catch is you have to cook for yourself, and eating soup out of the container is going to get old fast. Make sure you’ve got plenty of dishes, including a good saucepan (mac and cheese will keep you alive), a couple of frying pans, and a few dishes. You’ll want to pack a coffee pot. Caffeine is what college degrees are made out of and at $3 a cup you’ll need to take out a student loan just to afford Starbucks.

Bedroom Essentials

Naturally, you’re going to need a bed. While you can get away with a mattress on the floor, make sure it’s a real mattress. (Waking up on a dead air mattress in the middle of the night is no fun.) Plus, a real set of box springs does wonders. Bookshelves are a good idea, though the milk crate approach is still classic. Don’t forget about a decent stereo, or at least a Bluetooth speaker to plug your phone into.

Living Room

In the living room, you’ll want a few basic pieces of furniture such as a couch and some easy chairs. Lawn furniture just isn’t comfortable and too close to camping. And don’t forget to pack plenty of lamps. They make a rental feel like a real home.

Cleaning Products of Destruction

Don’t forget the cleaning products. Your roommates will thank you. Make sure you have a broom, dustpan, and mop. A bottle of vinegar makes a great natural cleaner, FYI.
