The 30 Mile Meal Project Celebrates Athens Locavore Scene

Jul 17, 2017

Even though you’re a student living in an Ohio University student rental, you are still part of the local community. Discover food made from local ingredients and your neighbors that helped grow it through the 30 Mile Meal Project. A celebration of Athens local food economy, it’s a locavore endeavor featuring restaurants and culinary delights made from food grown within 30 miles of your apartment. Eat local and enjoy the flavors of the community.

A 30 Mile Map of Local Food Love

Compiled by the the Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the 30 Mile Meal Map shows local farms, farmers markets and restaurants that primarily feature locally grown Athens food on their menus.

One look at the map and you realize that pilgrimage to Olive Garden in Lancaster is just a sick joke. Why not enjoy local culinary delights, grown by the farmer sitting next to you on the beer stool at the weekly open stage?

“Our local food and beverage scene is really unique and extraordinary,” Leslie Schaller, program director for the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks, told the Columbus Dispatch.
