Performing Arts Series: Great Entertainment Just Down the Road

OU students have no end of opportunities to see fine performers of every stripe while in Athens through the 2019-2020 Performing Arts Concert Series. The series had an exciting and diverse range of artists in October, and November will follow suit.

Here are some shows to plan to attend:

Oct. 31, 7:59 p.m. – Nosferatu, Athena Cinema. Look for being thoroughly creeped out by the classic silent vampire film by legendary German director F.W. Murnau. Much scarier than Dracula. Sean Parsons will provide silent film musical accompaniment. Plus, there’s free admission courtesy OU Performing Arts.

Nov. 1, 7:59 p.m., Baker Center Ballroom – Stand-up comedian Michael Kosta is also a TV host and former pro tennis player. He made his debut as a correspondent on The Daily Show, made appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and has performed on Conan, Late Night with Seth Meyers and other leading shows.

Nov. 2, 7:59 p.m. , Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium – Celebrate the music of Pink Floyd’s The Wall on its 40th anniversary, as performed by Any Colour of Athens.

Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m., Stuarts Opera House – Thompson Square Acoustic, comprised of the husband and wife team of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, an internationally celebrated country duo, perform as part of OU’s concert series.

Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m.Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium – Harlem 100. Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance with Mwenzo and the Shakes.

Nov. 14, 8 p.m., Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium – Justin Moore, country artist headliner in concert. Moore performs in a more traditional country style.

Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m.Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium – Nella, up and coming Latin singer.

Yes, Athens is a small town but you’re lucky to be where you needn’t go far from your Athens Ohio housing for great entertainment.
