Every year Athens pulls out all the stops for celebrating the nation’s independence with a rip-roaring 4th of July. This year is no exception with the 2019 Athens Fabulous Fourth, hosted by the city and other sponsors.
The celebration kicks off on July 3, with such events as a Fabulous 4th Senior Queen Pageant, Cruise-in at the Mall on State, American Flag Raising, and patriotic music from 8 to 11 p.m. at East State Street Mall, along with fireworks at 10 pm.
But there’s more on the 4th! Get on your mark at 8 a.m. sharp for a 5K fun run and walk, starting at Discovery Museum, or get in line starting at 8:30 a.m. for the Fabulous 4th Parade, commencing at 9:30 a.m. Homemade floats, decorated cars, marching units, bicycles and horses are all invited to join the order of march, proceeding along East Washington Street, onto Court, right on East Carpenter and left onto East State, right onto Morris Avenue, then concluding at Athens American Red Cross Parking Lot.
You’ve lucked out if you’re in one of the Athens Ohio student rentals near the parade route. Leave your car in your parking spot and come on down to celebrate with the entire community.
