Christmas LightsAs Fall Quarter comes to a grueling, grinding end, sometimes the best way to catch a breather is to take in a little holiday cheer and remember that Christmas is right around the corner. Here are 3 awesome Christmas events to get in the spirit.

Enjoy the Christmas Lights of Uptown Athens

Uptown Athens is awash in Christmas lights. Take an evening stroll and appreciate their glow, especially after a fresh winter coat of snow. During certain nights, you can also enjoy horse drawn wagon rides, gingerbread creations, and even get a tour from the hairy jawed jolly St. Old Guy himself!

Ride the Santa Train Rails

Take a trip down Nelsonville’s own Polar Express with the Santa Train on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad. Train rides take place every Saturday and Sunday afternoon through Dec. 20. There are lights, Christmas carols, and a visit from Santa Claus, so make your list and check it twice. Coaches are decorated with Christmas cheer and heated for comfort.

A Candlelit Hike to Ash Cave

Bundle up and take a candle lit hike to Ash Cave. Around Dec. 10, participants walk along a path strewed with candles to the cave, where they enjoy enjoy an open fire, refreshments, and Christmas carols. There’s an old fashioned Santa. An outdoor Christmas tree is also decorated for wildlife to enjoy.
