Welcome Week Brings New Ways to Stay Engaged with Your Well-Being

Aug 04, 2025

It’s no doubt that college is stressful at times. Students have a high workload while attending classes full-time. That combined with busy social lives, participation in additional extra curriculars, and general chores can create a busy schedule without much room to breathe.

Ohio University recognizes that student mental health is important. Counseling and Psychological Services is offering a Well-Being Wayfinder discussion during Welcome Week on August 27th from 11am-1pm in Lindley Hall. The talk aims to give students—new and returning—ways to promote holistic well-being as well as learn more about Counseling and Psychological Services.

Why Supporting Mental Health Matters

Universities have an ethical responsibility to invest in the mental health of their student body. It ends up being both beneficial to the university and its students. When students’ mental health is supported, they achieve higher rates of academic success. Their ability to concentrate improves, and they see better motivation and time management strategies.

Focusing on mental health while students are at such a formative age gives them the coping skills they can take with them throughout life, not just college. When schools talk about mental health, it shatters negative stigma surrounding it while increasing help-seeking behaviors from students.

Make Sure to Check Out the Rest of Welcome Week

Welcome Week is a big event at OU. It’s basically a week-long celebration that welcomes students back to campus. While a lot the events are geared toward first-time Bobcats, returning students make their way to campus from their rental homes around the corner from the university. The more interactive events center around things like obstacle course runs, quick sports games, dunk tanks, and other summer festival classics.

Don’t just learn how to take charge of your mental health with the Well-Being Wayfinder discussion. If you find yourself on campus during Welcome Week, make a point to check out the other events and activities happening throughout the days. After all, one great way to improve your well-being is to take part in your community, and that’s what Welcome Week is all about.
