Fall is right around the corner, and with it brings a new explosion of blooms and color to our landscapes. It’s our favorite season hands-down for tons of reasons. There’s the crisp breeze in the air, the leaves changing color, and all of the pumpkin spice everything. To say that there’s a lot going on in fall is an understatement. With dropping temperatures and autumnal activities, everyone is out and about.
Folks around Columbus have some of the best options to get out and enjoy fall. One of the favorites every year is the Harvest Blooms at Franklin Park Conservatory, and for good reason. And the best part? You’ve got almost a whole month to enjoy it.
Blooms Abound
For many people, one of the best parts of fall is the change in scenery. Bright and vibrant oranges, yellows, and reds fill the treetops. Muted purples and whites from mums and ornamental kale take over flowerbeds. And of course, there are the pumpkins. Everyone’s favorite multicolored gourds to usher in the season with.
Franklin Park Conservatory certainly feels similarly with their Harvest Blooms show. Their annual display of all things botanically fall is right around the corner. The conservatory fills the outside gardens with fantastical displays of mums, ornamental cabbage and kale, and more. The talented landscape design team creates elaborate displays of pumpkins stacked on one another with alternating swirls of perfectly-colored mums. But, one of the best parts are the iconic pumpkin houses. Imagine a classic a-frame home filled to the brim on the exterior with pumpkins. It’s equal parts crazy talent and the perfect fall photo opportunity.
Harvest Blooms is an all-ages show, and anyone can enjoy it. Kids are able to appreciate the colorful displays and sea of pumpkins, and adults can fully appreciate the work and planning that goes into creating a large-scale show like this.
Don’t Forget About Pumpkins Aglow
Time your visit right, and you can also take part in Pumpkins Aglow, one of FPC’s nighttime light shows. Another favorite fall show, Pumpkins Aglow lights up the park and conservatory with fall-colored lights and jack-o-lanterns. While Pumpkins Aglow is also family-friendly, there are plenty of opportunities for adults to grab a seasonal cocktail and stroll around the outdoor areas.
The lightshow and Harvest Blooms come together for what is without a doubt one of the best fall-themed events in Columbus. Harvest Blooms runs for a full month, starting towards the end of September and stretching to late October. If you’re looking for the full fall package, Pumpkins Aglow tends to run for about two weeks starting in the middle of October.
