Oct 03, 2025

Can you say without a doubt that you know all of the places on Ohio State’s campus? Whether you’re living in the dorms or in an affordable rental home close to OSU, campus is a sprawling area with tons of buildings. The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum—yes, there’s a cartoon museum on campus—is hosting its Motion Lines exhibition, and it’s set to leave on November 9th.

If you’ve never been into the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It’s a charming building with plenty of light-hearted and educational exhibits. If you’re a fan of cartoons, comic strips, and everything in-between, this is the place to go.

About the Billy Ireland Museum

Inside the Billy Ireland Museum lies a cornucopia of cartoons and comics—it actually has the world’s largest collection of materials related to the subject. It’s much more than just a place that collects and displays printed cartoons and comics. It’s an academic research facility that studies cartoons that have been printed over the years.

Named after the Ohio native who worked his entire career at The Columbus Dispatch drawing editorial cartoons, the Billy Ireland Museum has been open since 1977. It’s located right at the edge of campus situated between the Wexner Arts Center and the Ohio Union. For any students who are living in a college apartment around the High Street area, the museum’s only a hop, skip, and jump away from their front door.

About the Motion Lines Exhibit

The currently ongoing Motion Lines exhibition at Billy Ireland is set to leave on November 9th, 2025. The exhibit, as the name suggests, is focused on how cartoonists and illustrators depict motion in their works through a variety of techniques. The exhibit takes over 100 examples from cartoons and comics dating all the way back from the 1800s (yes—comics existed back then too) to the present day.

For those interested in attending, the exhibit is open from 1-5pm Tuesday through Sunday and is free to attend.
